Outpatient varicose vein treatment
Sclerotherapy for Varicose Veins
Sclerotherapy is a traditional method of treating varicose veins, particularly suitable for smaller superficial veins or thread veins. It is a non-surgical outpatient procedure that helps eliminate both the unpleasant symptoms and the unsightly appearance of venous disease.
Procedure overview
Sclerotherapy is one of the established outpatient methods of treating varicose veins. It is particularly suitable for smaller superficial veins and thread veins, with the major advantage of being gentle, allowing quick recovery and a return to normal daily activities without long-term convalescence.

Outpatient sclerotherapy
- It is a traditional method of treating varicose veins, particularly suitable for smaller superficial veins or thread veins.
- This non-surgical procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, without the need for hospitalisation.
- One of the advantages is the possibility to perform the procedure under ultrasound guidance.
- In our vascular surgery clinic, the price of the procedure includes a compression stocking and Lioton gel 50 g free of charge.

Procedure course
During sclerotherapy, the doctor precisely treats the affected veins using a sclerosing solution. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, is gentle, and the patient usually feels only mild discomfort.
Examples of results
The results of sclerotherapy depend on the extent of venous disease and on following the recommended post-procedure regimen. Before-and-after photographs help illustrate the improvement in both the appearance and condition of the lower limbs.

Recommendations before and after the procedure
To ensure the best possible course and outcome of the procedure, it is important to follow the recommendations both before and after sclerotherapy. A proper post-procedure regimen helps support the effect of the treatment and reduce the risk of complications.
Before the procedure
- We recommend increasing your fluid intake and arriving after eating. Walking before the procedure is also beneficial.
- Sclerotherapy is not suitable for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, or people with acute inflammatory conditions.
- It is also not recommended for patients with deep vein thrombosis or an allergy to the sclerosing solution.
After the procedure
- Immediately after the procedure, the patient should walk actively, ideally for at least 3 kilometres.
- Part of the sclerotherapy process is the immediate application of a compression stocking, which the patient should wear continuously for at least 4 days / 24 hours, followed by daytime compression therapy for another month.
- Possible complications include the development of so-called scleromas – small blood clots that may form in the treated vein.
- As a result, hyperpigmentation may also develop, although it should gradually disappear within six months at the latest.
